Welcome from the President, Ron Grabowski
Date Posted: September 2, 2004

Welcome to the members of the Graduate Business Association (GBA) for the 2004-2005 academic year. This years officers would like to thank the last two presidents, Gerard Borda and Ritch Overton and their boards for putting the current leadership in an excellent position to continue the tradition of the GBA.

We have exciting events lined up this year that many GBA members will really enjoy. One of our goals this year is to do two speaker series events with the finest business leaders that ever roamed our business school with one event at the Rialto and the other at Philips Arena. We have added new events such as the Lunch with the Dean and the Dean’s Forum series. The Lunch with the Dean series is unique because it gives a limited number of GBA members an opportunity to learn more about the Dean’s plans for our program as well as allowing you the opportunity to offer ideas and feedback to our Dean. Attending our sponsored events is the only way you will be able to seize this opportunity. Of course, we hope to see you at one of the Dean’s Forums. Each semester, we will have two forums, one in Alpharetta and one Downtown. The GBA plans to sponsor and co-sponsor 3-5 panel discussions this year. The first is a co-sponsored event with the Graduate Career Management Center in Aderhold on Thursday September 9th from 7:15-8:45 pm. It’s a recruiter’s panel and the primary goal is to find out why companies hire and do not hire Robinson MBAs and what are the hiring trends for new MBAs within the next year or two.

Our mission would not be complete if we did not “connect students with opportunity.” Your first opportunity comes on Thursday September 2nd at the Sidebar Atlanta. This is our first Happy Hour/Social for the semester and it will give you the opportunity to network with other business students in a social, festive atmosphere. Current GBA members will receive free appetizers along with a free drink ticket. If you have or have ordered a GBA business card by the time of the event, you will receive two free drink tickets. We are also bringing back Bob Littel to do the highly successful brown bag netweaving event this October. To utilize the skills you learn from this event, the GBA and alumni association will hold a networking reception with area business executives to employ your new skills.

We believe as future business executives that the GBA gives you the opportunity to be active in the community. The first of many community events that the GBA will be involved in is Hands-on-Atlanta on October 2nd from 9 am to 1 pm with the Metro Area Atlanta Homeless Shelter.

Finally, I would like to thank this year’s leadership team for doing a tremendous job. Many of the new leaders put in long hours to enhance not only the GBA but more importantly, the Robinson College of Business.

We look forward to getting to know you all and doing the best job possible for the Robinson GBA.

Sincerely,

Ron Grabowski
President, Graduate Business Association
