Over 100 graduate students from
GA State, UGA, GA Tech, RCB alumni, faculty and representatives of the Atlanta
business community gathered at the Rialto Center for the Performing Arts for
the GBA Inaugural Speaker Series. The event was titled “What Are Workers Worth?”
and focused on one of the most controversial topics in business today –human
capital and outsourcing.
Mr. Jim Copeland, Jr., CEO Deloitte & Touche (ret), was the keynote speaker.
Mr. Copeland, Jr. shared with the audience his thoughts on the role knowledge
workers play in the success of every organization, as well as the importance
of proper valuation of human capital as it pertains to outsourcing decisions.
The event featured remarks by Dr. John Cook, a retired Georgia State University
professor and former instructor to Jim Copeland, and Dr. Don Ratajczak, the
former Director of the Economic Forecasting Center.
“What Are Workers Worth?” marked the beginning of a new tradition at Robinson
College of Business. The Graduate Business Association plans to sponsor a number
of similar events in the future. The Speaker Series will provide students with
access to the knowledge and expertise of outstanding business leaders and help
them gain valuable insight on burning business issues.
After a dynamic question and answer session, Mr. Copeland joined students and
faculty members for an after-event party at The Mark.
